Our State Committee Members
There are four members of the Democratic State Committee elected for the First Essex and Middlesex district, two men and two women. One man and one woman are elected for a four-year term by the voters in the Presidential primary. The other two seats are two year seats that are elected by a caucus of local committee representatives. The terms of all four seats started in April 2004.

Our Town, Ward, and City Committees
Each of the communities in the district except for Gloucester is a town, where there is a single Democratic committee for the entire community. Gloucester has Ward Committees in each of its five wards. In practice, Gloucester's five committees work as a single city committee, except when required to function separately.
Each committee is elected in the Presidential primary for four-year terms, although vacancies in the committee may be filled at any time.
After the election, a chair, vice-chair, secretary, and treasurer are elected and serve as officers of the town, ward, or city committees.
